Project Description

Field mapping, using structural geology and digital imaging techniques, of magmatic intrusions and associated structures in order to gain insight into magma emplacement and propagation mechanics. Various target field sites are envisaged in line with two PUC hosted Fondecyt projects on hydraulic fracture (dykes and alike) mechanics and the role of fault zone intersections on channelling crustal fluids. Both projects fall within the MDE and FEC components of SZ4D. Students or early career scientists may also become involved with in house numerical modeling or laboratory rock deformation activities as appropriate.

Proposed Hosting Period



Access to field sites and geological field equipment. UAV's and structure from motion model building software. FEM and DEM numerical modeling software and computers. Basic rock deformation and rock physical property characterization laboratory equipment.
