Chile
Project Description
In 2023, two extremely large floods took place in central-south Chile. Peak flow discharges in both cases matched or overpassed the estimations for the 100-yr flood. Furthermore, the corresponding meteorological events were very different in terms of concurring temperatures, the location of the freezing level, total rainfall, maximum intensities, and the overall temporal distribution. The idea is to study in details both events in order to have a complete characterization, and a better understanding of whether these events will become more frequent in the short and long-term future, or at least, a methodological framework and tools to evaluate the latter.
