Objectives

A public forum to learn about SZ4D Landscapes and Seascapes working group

This one-hour webinar provided an overview of SZ4D, introduced the Landscapes and Seascapes working group, and explored their efforts to develop a vision and framework for studying the impacts of great subduction zone earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on sediment generation, transport, and the shaping of landscapes and seascapes. The session included ample time for Q&A, welcoming suggestions, feedback, and guidance from participants.

SZ4D (Subduction Zones in Four Dimensions) is a research-community-driven initiative in the U.S. focused on investigating the processes underlying subduction zone hazards. An NSF-funded planning group has been working to map out a potential decadal-scale program in integrated subduction science, seeking broad community input. SZ4D has convened three Working Groups to address key areas of interest:

• Faulting & Earthquake Cycles

• Magmatic Drivers of Eruption

• Landscapes & Seascapes: Surface Processes and Subduction

This webinar was the last in a four-part SZ4D summer series. If you have additional questions, please email contact@sz4d.org or reach out to the appropriate Interest Group co-chairs (contact information is available at the bottom of the interest group pages).
