Research Interests
The PI at SDSU is developing a new software to model long waves such as tsunamis, storm surges and geologic-induced floods interacting with coastal conditions such as tides and river flows. The Chilean PI (Daniel Melnick) and his PhD student (Nathan Wolff) are studying the by 1960 flood of Valdivia, Chile, caused by the damming of a river following landslides triggered by the 1960 earthquake. Geologic and marine field work and data collected by these PI's (including the hosting PI during his academic stay in Chile in 2025) and the PhD student, will be used in this visit to San Diego for refining the model.
