Webinar Recap by the SZ4D Steering Committee
(Presenter: Harold Tobin, Univ. of Washington)
Thank you to all who joined us for this informational webinar on the SZ4D planning initiative. SZ4D (Subduction Zones in Four Dimensions) is a research-community-driven initiative in the U.S. aimed at investigating the processes underlying subduction zone hazards.
An NSF-funded planning group has been working to outline a potential decadal-scale program in integrated subduction science and has been seeking broad community input.
So far, three Working Groups have been convened to address major areas of interest:
• Faulting & Earthquake Cycles
• Magmatic Drivers of Eruption
• Landscapes & Seascapes: Surface Processes and Subduction
During this one-hour informational webinar, participants learned about the developing research initiative, the ongoing planning process, how the community has been engaged, and the projected timelines for SZ4D planning. There was also an opportunity for questions during the webinar.
