Research Interests
My research focuses on marine geology and geophysics, with particular emphasis on sedimentary processes, seafloor geomorphology, and natural hazards associated with active continental margins. My work combines geological, geophysical, oceanographic, and environmental approaches to understand how tectonic, climatic, and oceanographic processes shape submarine landscapes and influence sediment transport, ecosystem dynamics, and geohazard development.
Current research activities include the study of submarine canyons, fjord systems, glaciomarine environments, sediment transport pathways, mass wasting processes, tsunami deposits, and seafloor mapping using multibeam bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, side-scan sonar, and sediment core analyses. Ongoing projects investigate the interactions between tectonic activity, climate variability, sedimentary processes, and marine ecosystems along the Chilean margin and in Antarctic and Patagonian environments.
Our research group promotes a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and independent research. Participants receive regular mentorship while contributing to ongoing projects and developing their own research ideas.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact me before applying to discuss potential projects and prepare the required letter of collaboration.
Proposed Hosting Period
I am available to host participants throughout 2027. Specific dates can be arranged in consultation with the selected applicant, depending on project requirements and fieldwork schedules.
