Research Interests
I am interesting in understanding the mechanics of failure, including the ways in which observations can predict future behavior and organize stress in the crust. Current observational projects include studies of dynamic triggering, statistical forecasting, induced seismicity, synchronization, oceanic-solid Earth coupling, seismology, landslide and volcanic seismicity. In addition, our group performs laboratory experiments on rupture of complex media and granular flows. We have the capability of doing photoelastic Couette flow experiments, granular flows under vibration and direct shear experiments on analog materials. Other interests include fault zone structure, permeability enhancement and monitoring, glacial seismology, sea-floor pressure and river dynamics.
