Research Interests

My research interests focus on understanding the dynamics of subduction zones and the processes that control the generation and impact of geological hazards, particularly large earthquakes, tsunamis, and related cascading phenomena along convergent plate margins. My work integrates structural geology, tectonics, marine geology, geophysics, and numerical modeling to investigate the Chilean subduction zone and improve our understanding of earthquake cycles and hazard variability.

My research group combines field observations, geological and geophysical datasets, remote sensing, laboratory analyses, and computational approaches to study fault architecture, crustal deformation, rupture processes, and surface responses. A key objective is to link fundamental Earth science with applications in hazard assessment and risk reduction, contributing to improved understanding and management of subduction-related hazards.

We promote an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment, encouraging students and early-career researchers to develop independent scientific perspectives through international collaborations and innovative methodologies. Our group welcomes projects related to subduction processes, earthquake and tsunami generation, fault segmentation, marine geological investigations, geohazard modeling, and science communication.

Through collaboration with researchers from different disciplines, we aim to advance knowledge of active margins and contribute to building more resilient societies exposed to geological hazards.

Proposed Hosting Period

The hosting period can be arranged at any time during 2027, depending on the needs and availability of the participants. However, the preferred periods for hosting the exchange would ideally be during May or August 2027, as these months would provide optimal conditions for research activities, collaboration, and integration with ongoing projects.

Facilities Resources

Our research group provides access to a multidisciplinary environment focused on subduction zone processes and geological hazards. Available resources include computational facilities for numerical modeling of earthquake rupture, fault deformation, and tsunami generation, as well as access to geological and geophysical datasets from active margins.

The visiting scientist will have access to research infrastructure including GIS and remote sensing tools, laboratory facilities for geological and sedimentological analyses, and support for field-based investigations when relevant. Our group maintains strong collaborations with national and international research networks, providing opportunities for scientific exchange, data integration, and interdisciplinary discussions.

Additional support includes access to office space, institutional research facilities, scientific seminars, and collaboration with researchers and students involved in ongoing projects related to tectonics, earthquake hazards, tsunami processes, and risk assessment.
