Research Interests
My research group at the University of Chile works on performance-based earthquake engineering, with emphasis on seismic hazard and risk assessment at both site-specific and regional scales. Current lines include ground-motion record selection, intensity-measure evaluation, spatial correlation of ground motions, site- and source-induced directionality of ground motions, and engineering seismology using the Chilean subduction-zone strong-motion records. A visiting researcher could engage with projects on site response, regional risk modeling for subduction earthquakes, or probabilistic methods applied to the Chilean megathrust zone. I supervise students at the MSc and PhD levels and favor a collaborative, discussion-driven mentorship style, with emphasis on rigorous, reproducible analysis. I have weekly group meetings where everyone shares progress and highlights blockers (SCORE/Scrum style), complemented with regular one-on-one meetings.
Proposed Hosting Period
Flexible throughout 2027; preferred period March–December to avoid the Chilean summer break and align with the academic semester.
Exchange Language
Spanish and English
Facilities Resources
The visiting researcher would have a workspace at FCFM (Beauchef) and access to the Department of Civil Engineering's resources, including high-performance computing, processed strong-motion datasets from the Chilean networks, portable seismic sensors for field campaigns (suitable for HVSR, ambient-noise array, and site-characterization work), and access to our structural dynamics laboratory and geotechnical laboratory.
