Research Interests
The National Earthquake Information Center monitors global earthquakes 24x7, rapidly characterizing and estimating the impact of significant events. We are interested in projects aimed at improving the rapid source characterization of significant subduction zone events, including a wide range of topics including improving event locations and depths, rapid size estimation, moment-tensor estimation, the application of machine learning to seismic monitoring and finite-fault modeling. We also are interested in seismotectonic studies that can lead to a broader understanding of subduction zone hazards. Our interest in developing tools focuses on algorithms that can be operationalized in a way that improves monitoring broadly across all subduction zones. The NEIC is located in the USGS Geologic Hazard Science Center (GHSC) which hosts a community of scientists with a wide range of earthquake, landslide, and geomagnetic expertise. The GHSC hosts many early carrier scientists and offers many opportunities for collaboration.

Facilities Resources
We can provide cubicles or shared offices. Participants should have their own laptops. Access to goverment computational resources (laptops and servers) will likely not be possible.
