Webinar Description: We will describe small eruptions that occur frequently at volcanoes with significant hydrothermal systems.  Poás, Turrialba, and Rincón de la Vieja in Costa Rica have produced hundreds of these eruptions in recent years, and improved monitoring techniques provide a wealth of information that can help us to understand these systems.  The role of magma, volatiles, and hydrothermal sealing all appear to be important factors in producing phreatic eruptions and determining the eruptive style and associated hazards.

SZ4D presents International Webinars, a series where the working groups invite international scientists to present on different topics relevant to their research and region. SZ4D values international voices and invites you to learn from these folks.
